This weekend will mark a milestone moment for humanity, as the first United Nations International Day of Hope is launching in Liverpool and globally on Saturday, 12 July 2025 – a bold new annual celebration designed to disrupt despair, spotlight quiet victories and reignite public belief in a better future for people, planet and peace

In times when it is becoming increasingly difficult to find common ground, one thing we all share is hope. It surrounds us, uniting us in our aspirations for a better future.” – Yinka Ilori

Liverpool, London, New York, Johannesburg, 12 July 2025 –

Hope Street, the road with a cathedral at each end, is the perfect focal point for Liverpool’s activities as one of four global cities celebrating the launch of the new UN International Day of Hope.

2030hub was invited by ‘Be hope’ campaign organisers Project Everyone to bring local leaders, businesses, schools, community organisations and all individuals from across Liverpool City Region together to create and support a range of activities to amplify a sorely needed sense of hopefulness in everybody.

Our uniquely creative and passionate home will include a ‘Be hope’ flag abseiled down Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral, unique ‘Be hope’ school lessons, postcard messages of hope shared through post boxes along Hope St to be sent to the UN Secretary General and world leaders, ‘taste of hope’ menus in selected restaurants, a charity fundraising event at The Pen Factory and key messages shared via huge outdoor screens across the region (and UK) courtesy of locally-based Open Media. The global campaign highlights that despite the setbacks of recent years, meaningful progress is happening and more is within reach. From ending crushing debt burdens to reigniting climate finance, harnessing AI for social good, and replenishing the crucial Global Fund – ‘Be Hope’ underscores the key decisions leaders must make this year to accelerate action.

Elsewhere in the UK London Mayor Sadiq Khan, musician and songwriter Lola Young and singer and campaigner Arlo Parks will join Yinka Ilori to unveil the new artwork designed to disrupt feelings of despair and remind passers-by of the core values that underpin the Sustainable Development Goals – People, Planet and Peace.

2030hub Founder, David Connor said,

“This inspiring day is the latest step of a global initiative to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to ignite action on climate and social justice through culture, creativity and community. We are beyond proud at 2030hub to be bringing such a crucial message to our home and across our UN Local2030 Coalition networks. Hope is everything and the people of this city and region are uniquely placed to springboard a call for unity, celebration, innovation and action.”

With good news feeling few and far between, The Global Goals (www.globalgoals.org) have marked the first International Day of Hope by releasing a set of powerful findings in The Hope Report* and snapshots of positive news, providing inspiring proof that progress is not only possible – it’s happening.

  • 50 million more girls are in school globally than in 2015.
  • HIV infections are down by 60%, child deaths have halved, and millions of malaria cases have been prevented.
  • Deforestation in the Amazon fell by over 30% in 2024.
  • Extreme poverty has dropped by over 50% since 2000, with fewer than 10% of people now living below the extreme poverty line.
  • Internet access and clean energy now reach over 90% of the world population.

These wins – big and small – are the heartbeat of the International Day of Hope. They show that when people and nations work together, even the toughest challenges can be overcome.

The campaign is also launching Hope Mode, a digital tool that rewires the user’s social media algorithm for hope, promoting more Goals aligned, positive content.

The Be Hope campaign will continue to bring energy to global stages throughout the year, including the UN General Assembly in New York, G20 Johannesburg, COP30 in Belem and Global Goals Week in Liverpool in September and cities around the world.
