Liverpool is one of only two cities in the world, alongside New York, that officially hosts a Global Goals Week campaign. This unique distinction reflects our city’s leadership in sustainability, innovation, and social impact. Through Global Goals Week, Liverpool stands alongside global leaders, showcasing what local communities can do to contribute to a more sustainable world.
A Growing Movement in Liverpool
Global Goals Week is more than just an event—it’s an opportunity for the Liverpool City Region to come together and demonstrate its leadership on the global stage.
In 2023, Liverpool stepped up in a big way:
- 18 impactful events were hosted across the region.
- Over 500 local participants attended
- We proudly celebrated being named the 'Most Improved Sustainable Destination' by the Global Destination Sustainability Index.
What We Aim to Achieve
Building on last year’s success, Global Goals Week Liverpool 2024 is set to be even bigger and more ambitious. This year, we will bring together leaders, policymakers, community organisations, businesses, students, and youth groups from across Liverpool and beyond. Our aim is to foster collaboration, share best practices, and inspire bold actions to further the Global Goals.
Our vision is to empower everyone—whether it’s hosting an event, launching new initiatives, or engaging with the community. Liverpool’s creativity, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit are key to driving this movement forward and creating change that resonates far beyond the city.
Themes for 2024
This year’s events will align with five key themes, unveiled at the UN General Assembly:
- Sustainable development and financing,
- International Peace and Security,
- Science, technology, and innovation,
- Youth and future generations, and
- Transforming global governance.
These themes highlight the critical role local actions play in addressing global challenges, making Liverpool a key player in the global effort to achieve the Global Goals.
GGW Core Events
As a formal UN partner for Global Goals Week, 2030hub will be hosting and curating core events around sustainability finance, youth, cities, and science / technology, in addition to a concurrent Liverpool Climate Week theme, to stimulate the local debate whilst also asking, and supporting all Liverpool City Region stakeholders to share their successes, engage with their communities and amplify each other across sectors, themes and geographies.
