2030hub is proud to announce the launch of a pioneering week of sustainability and climate activities in partnership with Witherslack Group, the UK's leading provider of specialist education for children with special educational needs (SEN).
This global first initiative, running during the UN's Global Goals Week, aims to engage 1800+ learners and is designed to empower students in Witherslack's 'Futures' programme, which supports young people in their transition to the world of work.
As world leaders convene in New York to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this collaboration brings the global conversation to a local level, equipping SEN students with the green skills and knowledge needed for the jobs of tomorrow.
A Co-Created Toolkit for Climate & Sustainability Action
At the heart of the week is a comprehensive toolkit co-created and guided by 2030hub. This resource provides Witherslack’s 30+ UK schools and educators with bespoke lesson plans, specific green skills & jobs learning, practical activities, and sessions with experienced private sector guests.
All of the resources created are guided by the SDGs to help interconnect local actions to global challenges, with many curated from the World's Largest Lesson, and all complimented with 5 days of specific lesson plans around energy, nature, buildings, food and resources.
The week aims to translate complex sustainability concepts into accessible and practical learning experiences, understanding evolving green career opportunities, fostering a deeper understanding of climate change, conservation, and the circular economy.
Inspiring Green Ambassadors Across the UK
To help kickstart the week, 2030hub founders David Connor and Stephen Sykes will be embarking on a tour of Witherslack schools across the country. They will meet with volunteer 'Green Ambassadors' - students passionate about the environment - to catalyse energy, share insights on the future of green careers, and reinforce the message that green jobs are for everyone.
"We are incredibly excited to launch this programme with Witherslack Group," said David Connor, Founder of 2030hub. "It’s vital that every young person, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to participate in the green transition. By linking our activities to Global Goals Week, we are connecting these students to a global movement and empowering them to see themselves as future leaders and changemakers in a sustainable world."
The week-long event will culminate with a school wide 'Generation Earthshot' creating impact solutions based on the Earthshot Prize launched by Prince William in 2020, celebrating their creativity and commitment to a more sustainable future.
